Benefits of FRP Strengthening
-
CFRP is excellent option for adding flexural or shear strength
-
CFRP can be used for column confinement or armoring.
-
Inexpensive in comparison to replacement or traditional strengthening methods
-
Lightweight, high strength to weight ratio.
-
Corrosion Resistant
FRP Applications
-
Repair of damaged or corroded concrete structures
-
Increase load capacity to existing structures to meet more stringent design standards
-
Seismic Retrofit
-
Concrete Column or Pile Jacketing
Fiber Reinforced Polymer Strengthening (FRP)
Fiber Reinforced Polymer Systems (FRP) are an excellent option to add structural capacity to existing concrete members. FRP systems are comprised of fiberglass or carbon fiber (CFRP) fabrics that are saturated in epoxy resin for bonding and applied directly to the surfaces of deficient members. After curing, the original concrete member and FRP system have bonded to become a new composite section. Dan-Kel has partnered with industry leading FRP manufactures and can provide projects with a turn key design to installation solution.
Epoxy Crack Injection
Epoxy crack injection is effective method to restore structural integrity and moisture resistance compromised concrete members. Before proceeding with any crack repair, the cause of the crack and need for structural repair must be determined before selecting a crack repair method. Dan-Kel’s experienced team can complete field inspections to determine the root cause of cracks to select an appropriate product and method for the repair. If a structure requires special attention, Dan-Kel can assist with sourcing and managing a structural engineer to complete further analysis.
Crack Injection Advantages
-
Low viscosity, high strength injection epoxies are able to bond or weld cracked concrete to a like new condition
-
Epoxy crack injection is very cost effective when compared to replacement.
-
Cracks determined to be non-structural can be repaired with partial depth injection or flood coated products to prevent moisture intrusion.
-
Injection ports are primarily surface mounted and are ground flush with existing concrete after repairs are made.
Polyurethane Injection/Grouting
Concrete structures that are below grade are often plagued with moisture intrusion at cracks and joints. DanKel can inject hydrophobic (water activated) polyurethane grouts into cracks and joints to stop the flow of water without requiring major excavation. DanKel uses environmentally friendly polyurethane grouts that are safe to be in contact with drinking water.
Applications For Polyurethane Injection
-
Box culvert and drainage structure repair
-
Water Treatment plants
-
Fill for underground voids or cavities
-
Stabilization for compromised soils
Concrete Spall Repair
Concrete structures are susceptible to spalling and de-lamination that exposes critical reinforcing steel to corrosion. Dan-Kel can strategically remove unsound concrete and repair it using a variety of specialized repair mortars to restore the original integrity and aesthetics to the bridge, building or box culvert.
Repair Techniques
-
Form and Pour
-
Vertical and Overhead Hand Patching
-
Thin Overlay Resurfacing
Industrial Traffic Coatings
Concrete slabs in harsh and high traffic environments must be properly maintained to ensure long term durability. Proactively protecting concrete in harsh environments can be a strategic investment to the longevity of the structure. Dan-Kel's team can help innovate a protective coating system to meet the needs of the facility or structure.

Structural Assessment Investigation
Accurate as-builts or existing conditions are not always available to the design professional evaluating concrete structures requiring rehabilitation. Dan-Kel's experienced team can complete field testing and generate reports to provide engineers and architects with the necessary data for accurate design.
